Marieta Warner, 86, of North Brunswick, passed away on May 8, 2017 at The Elms of Cranbury. Marieta was born in New Brunswick and grew up in Milltown. She resided in New Brunswick before moving to North Brunswick 61 years ago. She was a seamstress for Dean Blouse Company for 48 years. She was a member of the North Brunswick Rescue Squad Auxiliary and was also the last surviving member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Kotten Club in New Brunswick. She was a member of the North Brunswick Democratic Club for many years. Marieta attended the United Methodist Church at New Brunswick.
She loved her family and many friends and especially her two great-granddaughters. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, going to Atlantic City, and cooking. She was widely known for her delicious stuffed cabbage. Many claimed that there was "none better" than hers.
She was pre-deceased by her husband, George, in 1997, and by her companion, Ralph Shiffner, in 2014, parents Walter and Isabell Showers, sisters Dorothy "Dot" Ruckman and Mildred Sciarratta, and brother Irvin Showers.
She is survived by her daughter Margaret "Maggie" Somers and her husband David of East Brunswick; and her sister Marlene Kowachik of Plantation, Florida; her grandchildren Ryan Somers, Jason Somers and Tiffany Shirk, and her 2 great-granddaughters Isabella and Gabriella Somers.
Visitation will be from 2 – 4 p.m. and 7 – 9 p.m. on Thursday, May 18, 2017, at the Selover Funeral Home, 555 Georges Road, North Brunswick NJ 08902.
Services will be held at the funeral home on Friday, May 19, 2017, at 10:00 a.m., followed by internment at Van Liew Cemetery in North Brunswick NJ.
