Charles Somogyi died Tuesday, July 20, 2021, at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick. He was 89.
Born in Salamon, Hungary to the late Karoly and Theresa (Mitch) Somogyi, he immigrated to the United States in 1956. He lived in New Brunswick before moving to North Brunswick 45 years ago. He worked in grounds management for the Boy Scouts of America in North Brunswick for 40 years and for ten years at Wells Fargo Bank in North Brunswick before retiring in 1994.
Mr. Somogyi was a communicant of St. Ladislaus R.C. Church in New Brunswick since 1956. He was a member and treasurer of the Hungarian American Athletic Club in New Brunswick. He enjoyed landscape design and was passionate about gardening and maintaining his property.
In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his sister Rose Bakos. Surviving are his wife of 64 years Angela (Bors) Somogyi; his daughter Ann Rockenstein and her husband Robert of North Brunswick; his son Charles R. Somogyi and his wife Gia of Kendall Park; and four grandchildren – Nicole Macdonald and her husband Brian of Howell, Alexa Rockenstein of North Brunswick and Nick and Thomas Somogyi of Kendall Park.
Cremation was private. A Memorial Mass will be held 10:00 AM Tuesday, July 27, 2021, at St. Ladislaus Church, 215 Somerset Street, New Brunswick. Burial of the cremated remains will follow in Princeton Cemetery in Princeton. Arrangements are under the direction of Selover Funeral Home, North Brunswick.
