Q: What will you never forget about Michael?
A: Uncle Mike made quite an impression on my young daughters. Many years ago while they were still young ( under 10 years old ) Uncle Mike had cobbled together the parts of several new, yet incomplete bikes and made bikes for many children. My youngest daughter Maddie picked out a bike that had pink and purple parts that didn't really match, but were completely functional. Her favorite colors were pink and purple so it was the PERFECT bike for her! She gave Uncle Mike a big hug and called him Uncle Bike. For the next several years, she referred to him as Uncle Bike. I will always have that lasting memory of my daughter hugging him with such joy and pure happiness from getting that bicycle! It gives me such a good feeling and I can't help but smile thinking back to that moment.
RIP Uncle Bike!

God Blessed me with 60 years with Mike. We had a marriage made in heaven. He gave me everything I ever dreamed of and more. It was always “whatever you want “. He took me all over the world. He didn’t leave me. He’s in our music, my dreams, my heart. He gave me two amazing, loving sons. We’re Blessed with five beautiful grandchildren…so very proud of each one. I thank God every day for the great life He gave me. A lifetime of Happy memories and so much love.

My grandpa was one of my favorite people in the whole world. He was the kindest and funniest grandpa I could ever ask for. He and my grandma never missed a life event of any of their grandchildren. Whether it be attending dance recitals (where he slept through the whole recital until we came on stage) or going to sports games (with his seat cushion in hand), he was present. I’m grateful to have had my grandpa around for this long, not everyone is as lucky to have grandparents that see them grow into an adult.
We shared so many memories together. Some of the best memories happened on his boat. That’s where I learned how to drive a boat and that’s also where me and the other grandkids drifted off to sea when the rope untied on the tube that we were riding on. That’s a memory I laugh about often, being stranded on that tube while grandpa and my dad kept driving the boat, unaware. It was only for about a minute, but it was so funny. When we were kids, he would tell us to run around his backyard and he would run after us with this giant fishing net trying to catch us with it. It was a game that he invented that was just so him. He played other games with us, but he never really understood the rules and would make up his own. My favorite to play with him was Old Maid. He was so convinced that me and the other kids would be cheating, but honestly he was just bad at the game and always ended up as the Old Maid haha. He would try to trick us into picking the card but we could always see through his tricks of pushing the Old Maid up higher in his hand to entice us to choose that one.
It was never a dull moment with him. I remember when we all went sledding on a hill in my town on a snowy day. All of the parents and grandparents there were just watching their kids go up and down the hill. But not my grandpa, he grabbed the tube and said “my turn!”, causing everyone to panic as they see him speeding down the hill. He was fun. He would randomly break out in little snippets of songs that he would create. We would play fight / wrestle for fun. And he always let me do his hair in wacky hairstyles. He was a good sport, I don’t know anyone else who would tolerate the craziness his grandkids put him through.
Grandpa, I love you and I miss you. Today and every day <3 I’ll miss taking silly pictures of you, especially with your signature pose of your tongue sticking out. You really were the best grandpa a girl could ask for.

My mother Doris always said that you pick your friends, not your family. She also went on to say that there are members of your family that you would pick as friends. My Uncle Mike was that type of person. Despite there being more than one Mike/Michael in the family, including his father, when someone said "Mike" you automatically thought of him. He had so many facets-brother, husband, father, grandfather, God Father, father-in-law, uncle. And he took every one of them seriously but at the same time had the time of his life while doing them.
Tell Mom and Dad I said Hi.

Uncle Mike. I must have opened this page a dozen times to write something thar could accurately illustrate how much you meant to me and how much I loved you. You were the BEST Godfather that a person could ever ask for. You took your role seriously and took over when my own parents passed on. I have so much gratitude and love for you; you always stuck by me through thick and thin. You were my fishing, crab eating, food loving buddy. Thank you for all of those early mornings when I had a plane to catch and you and aunt Bernie were up making me Taylor Ham sandwiches for the road. Thank you for all of the polish food when I came to town. I’ll never have a crab boil, a TH sandwich or pirogies without thinking of you. My heart is broken that you are no longer on this earth but so happy you are going to meet Jesus and spend time with your hunting buddies again. Until we meet again ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

I would like to extend my Heartfelt condolences to Ms. Bern and Family. Mr. Mike was the 1st to welcome me to Rutgers Village. He was such a kind man, he would often give me pointers on how to use garden tools, lawn mower or snow blower, coming from the city I had no clue but he was willing to take a few minutes of his time to share a tip or two. They say that the 1st impression is a lasting impression and Mr. Mike has left a lasting impression on me, one of being kind hearted, funny and most of all a very good neighbor.

Grandpa was the best grandpa I could’ve ever asked for. He was so involved in all of his grandkid’s lives from soccer games and dance recitals to boat trips to feeding goats at Johnson’s Park to everything in between. He always encouraged me to do what makes me happy and that wherever I ended up he would be so proud of me for following my heart. I feel so lucky to have seen him and grandma for so many years showing all of us the kind of love that’s one in a billion, the kind that everyone hopes for, each and every day. He was the greatest husband, dad, and grandpa and he will be deeply missed by us all but he gave us enough happy and funny memories to last ten lifetimes.
Grandpa, I will miss your hugs, your words of encouragement, your random break outs into songs and beats that don’t exist, and so much more. You have touched everyone’s hearts in more ways than I can count, and that will never be forgotten. I’m going to miss you but I know your going to be by my side every step of the way. I love you!
Lots of love, Dana (aka your Goldilocks, Hannah Montana, Sunshine, and anything else you make up along the way)

Mike was a very special man. He was my brother-in-law my daughter’s Godfather and we Miss him very much and Our prayers go out to my Sister Bernie and the Szalus family. He is/was Loved very much. They didn’t come any better. Xo I do have to add this we pack up the Pick-up truck and we went cross country meBernie and Lindsay, we put our feet in all of the great lakes went to Mackinac Island. What a great experience but the funny one was when we went to Lake, George and Lindsay was young and me Bernie and Lindsay went into the store and Lindsay picked out a lottery ticket. for her uncle Mike, (it was a FAKE) one that said he had won $1 million. He was a good guy. He went along with it and we said oh Mike what did you win and he said oh nothing lol and we laughed like hell. There were just too many great times to list, but he was a great godfather. He never missed a dance recital and always brought Lindsay flowers.
